Brunello di Montalcino col d’Orcia 1999 - from Tuscany
Produced in the area of Montalcino in the province of Siena, Tuscany from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Aged for 4 years including 3 in Slavonian oak casks and refined in the bottle for at least 6 months at room temperature control. The perfume is complex, fresh, wide and deep. The spices of the oak are integrated in harmony with inviting fruit. Deep ruby red in colour. A taste of great impact: the impressive tannic structure is wrapped in a generous and almost creamy body, which releases multidimensional flavours. Primary result of increased sales and long ageing in oak are in perfect balance, leading to a noble and elegant aftertaste. A very good vintage.
Tignanello - from Tuscany
Tignanello is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. An intense ruby red, the nose exhibits ripe red fruit, together with cassis and blackberries, in perfect balance with hints of chocolate and liquorice. The palate is rich, ample, and vibrant and is endowed with lively and silky tannins which give a great complexity and an important length to the finish and aftertaste.
Tignanello 1990 - from Tuscany
Tignanello is produced exclusively from the Tignanello vineyard, a 47 hectares southwest-facing, calcareous rocky- marl and limestone soil plot with tufaceous elements, planted between 1,150 & 1,312 above sea level at Antinori’s Tignanello estate. Made from 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc grapes it was the first Sangiovese to be aged in small oak barrels, the first red wine in modern times to use a non-traditional grape variety, Cabernet, in the blend, and among the first red wines made in Chianti with no white grapes. In all 3 instances it set the example for a new breed of exceptional top-of-the-line Italian wine. The plum/cassis taste has a smoky nose, is full bodied, rich and complex with exceptional structure and a lengthy finish.
Solaia 1990 - from Tuscany
Solaia, which means the ‘sunny one’ in Italian, is a 10 hectares southwest- facing vineyard planted 351-396 metres above sea-level on stony calcarea soil of marl and friable alberese rock. It is located at Tignanello estate, contiguous to the homonymous vineyard, which is on the same property, in the Mercatale Val di Pesa zone of Chianti Classico. Antinori first produced a single-vineyard wine from these vines with the vintage 1978 (which was a limited release only in Italy). During following vintages, proportions of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes were used and small adjustments were made to arrive at today’s blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc & 20% Sangiovese. The taste is intensely fruity, finely structured and complex. Balanced, with soft tannins and a lingering finish. This wine displays unmistakable varietal flavour while retaining strong regional character.
